6 Unique Ways To Start Having More Fun

So the story goes like this, one day when I was working at my desk, trying to re-design the interview form for my company. I wanted to include a question about “what the candidate does for fun”, to further understand how the candidate spend his/her free time enjoying life. I then turned to my colleague and asked her: So what do you do for fun? 

She looked at my for a moment and burst into tears. She told me she doesn’t have fun anymore. She is a wife, mother, and a working woman. She forgot how fun looks like.

Unfortunately, too many of us are just like her. We are busy for the children, taking care of the house, career, house chores… And we forget to have fun. 

Therefore I decide to have some fun every now and then. It can be as simple as eating my favourite chocolate ice cream, hanging out with friends, work on a passion project, or do something I have never tried before.

I notice that I become a better worker, spouse and person if I have fun in my life.

So today I would like to share with you six ways to add fun into your life:

1. Count Your Blessings

Be thankful for what you have in your life. People who count their blessings rather than complain about their troubles just naturally have more fun. Prevent negativity in your life and start writing down all the blessings in your life. You would realize life becomes more fun without much effort!

2. Daydream

Daydreaming is my favourite. I use to think that daydreaming is your mind’s way of sending your soul a message. It is the starting point of all wonderful things and inventions. If you daydream in a positive manner, you will be amazed at how creative your mind can be and the secrets it will tell you.

Take some time off to sit and be quiet and just let your mind wander. Daydream about the kind of life you would like to have, things you want to do. Anything is possible in dreams. Pay attention to what your mind is telling you, write it down in a journal.

As the saying goes, “If you want to know where your heart is, look to where your mind goes when it wanders.”

3. Design A New “You”

Oftentimes we can’t imagine ourselves stepping out of our comfort zone and doing something new and different. We get so locked into what we know that we can’t let go of who we think we are.

So this exercise is simple, think about designing a new “you”. Make up another self that you wished to be. By doing this, you will be more free and able to be anyone you desired.

This should be fun and freeing, so take it easy and make the new “you” to be anything you want. What characters would the new “you” have? What does the new “you” do for fun? How does the new “you” dress?

4. It’s Okay To Have Fun

So many people don’t give themselves permission to have fun because they think it will detract from their responsibilities.

Life is meant to be fun. What kid doesn’t love to see their mother or father having fun, especially if it’s with them?

Yes, we all have things that we are responsible for—kids, parents, house, job—but we need to remember to add in fun and give ourselves permission to have it. You’ll be a better person for it.

5. Yes You CAN

What we tell ourselves becomes our reality. If we think we can’t do something, then we can’t or won’t even try.

For example, let’s say someone suggests surfing as something you might find fun. If you tell yourself that you can’t even swim and you will never find balance on a surf board, you probably won’t even try surfing.

Stop reinforcing these limiting beliefs and start telling yourself you can do it.

6. Dress Up And Show Up

We all have a personal pool of quicksand inside us where we begin to sink and need friends and family to find us and remind us of all the good that has been and will be.

Take on every opportunity to dress up, put on your favourite jewellery and perfume. Go out and meet people, observe how people are having fun. And learn how to genuinely appreciate the good things and good people in your life.
