Baby Bath Time: How Do You Choose Body Wash For Your Baby?

6 Nov

Consider skin is the largest organ of our bodies, whatever you put on your baby’s skin is being absorbed into her body.

Well, when it comes to keeping your baby clean, there are so many choices out there, whether it’s baby soaps, shampoos, or body washes.

So how do you pick the better one?

Sometimes we mothers got so confused by the extensive ingredient list written at the back of the products. So, really, are the soap/shampoos/lotion “safe” for the little one?

Let us first learn about:

Ingredients To Avoid

When it comes to cleaning agents, the main concern is to stay away from

Fragrance

Fragrance is added either to create a particular pleasant smell or to mask the ordour of the nasty chemicals used in production. There is also evidence that exposure to fragrance as a child may lead to asthma.

Anything “Parabens”

Parabens are preservative. They can be found everywhere. Parabens are neurotoxins and are linked to reproductive toxicity, hormone disruption, and skin irritation. Just stay away from it, especially for the babies.

Mineral Oil

Mineral oil is a colorless and odorless oil that’s made from petroleum—as a by-product of the distillation of petroleum to produce gasoline. It acts as a plastic wrap on the skin, inhibiting the skin ability to release toxins and has no benefits to the skin at all. You can instead choose natural and nourishing oil such as olive or coconut oil to massage your baby.

Although there are still a long list of chemicals that you should try to avoid, but to me these 3 are the major ones for me.

So when we have some basic information on what we should avoid, we become more aware about the importance of making a safer choice when choosing cleaning products for babies. Adult soaps and shower gels often include harsh petroleum-based detergents, but baby wash does tend to be gentler, if not necessarily safer. Ideally, you should choose a baby wash or bubble bath that specifies 100% natural ingredients and choosing organic baby wash is even better!

(It is so challenging to be mothers nowadays, we have to equip ourselves with more and more knowledge about harmful chemicals and ingredients… gosh~!)

For the past two months, I have been using a Korean brand Moonic Baby Line products for my daughters (age 1yo and 3yo).

Moonic Cure Bath is made of organic components and 5 types of natural plants. The lavender essential oils is very soothing for both babies and mummy. One bottle can last a long time due to the fact that it’s really concentrated. I can say both babies and I are very pleased with the product.

Moonic Cure Oil With 99.9% organic component, it mildly protects skin without irritation. My younger daughter has sensitive skin, therefore I have to be really careful when choosing the right type of baby oil/lotion for her. Unlike normal baby oil, Moonic Cure Oil is not really greasy, therefore when I first started using it on my babies (and myself), I thought it is not as concentrated. Later I found out that it is specially formulated to hydrate the skin and the formula is easily absorbed and non-greasy. After using for a while I notice that baby has less episode of skin rashes, due to the skin barrier provided by the 99.9% organic components.

Moonic Cure Balm contains organic components that moisturize and sooth skin. I use this product for dried skin area and bug bites. The texture of the balm is very light, therefore I need to apply multiple times to the same area to have the soothing effect.
