Tropical Escape: Mother-Daughters Matching Outfits

9 Jul

A tropical escape.

Surrounded by old buildings, aromatic white coffee and family members, our stay in Ipoh was a warm and meaningful one. To embrace the hot and humid climate, I have prepared light and cotton outfits for this trip. We have been travelling with the kids to quite a lot of places, and I somewhat mastered the mix and match approach when it comes to mother-daughters matching outfits. For example, in today’s shoot, I chose a matching fabric material and colours when I pack. A red belt for my outfit to match with the kids’ red heart print on the dress!

We really treasured our time here to be with in the in-laws and the kids were having so much fun with their cousins. I feel so blessed that this would become a precious part of their childhood memory. Every time we visit Ipoh, I am amazed by all the wonderful nature landscape and charming old buildings.

To me, it is beautiful.

This old town filled with intriguing historical past. You can read my previous post about Ipoh HERE:

We had so much fun playing dress up and I am forever grateful that God has given me the privilege to be the mother to two beautiful daughters and a husband who is willing to document all these moments for us.

Thank you so much for reading and wishing you a great week ahead!

Recently, I am thinking whether I should write about the MUST-EAT in Ipoh, do let me know if you are interested to find out 🙂

Perseverance in Raising Gifts of Life [Casual Red Dresses]

20 Nov

It is not easy since day one.

As a mother.

millionmars-padini-kids-2

Ultimately, our children are gifts to us and we have only a small window of opportunity to mould their characters.

What makes the job of parenting difficult is accepting the fact that we are imperfect beings trying to raise others imperfectly.

What we need to demonstrate to our children is that we are raising them with humility while acknowledging that we don’t do everything right all the time.

If you are not defensive but ask for their cooperation in doing what is right, even adolescents will appreciate it.

From the book Why Your Children Love You by Eliza Lian-Ding.

millionmars-padini-kids-5

A lot of times, we are just trying our best to be good mothers. To be honest, most of the time we really have no idea what to do… When you see your children fighting with each other for a toy, what do you do? When your child refuse to take a nap or brush her teeth, what do you do? When your child screams at you at a crowded public place, what do you do? No matter how many parenting books you read or how many parenting seminars you have attended, you can never be well prepared when the child arrives. For every child is different and so as every parent.

Life just changed.

And so as you.

I truly cherish every moment I got to spend with these two little girls. They have (in a way) made me a better person in general. I  have learned to be (and not just act as) a mother and my life priorities are all different now since they came into our lives.

Now as the girls grow, we are having more fun while playing dress up. Their father buys them a lot of clothes in pairs, so I have decided to UP our dressing game a little bit by wearing the matching outfits as we go out 🙂

My dress has been blogged about HERE when I was in Sydney earlier this year. Instead of its original braided belt, I pair it with a tassel belt this time.

Most of the time, they were having fun together. But getting them to pose properly for a picture is still a real struggle.

Like what was written in the book “What makes the job of parenting difficult is accepting the fact that we are imperfect beings trying to raise others imperfectly.” Many times we experience failures, we are clueless and we have our own weaknesses. To make parenting simpler, maybe what we need to do is to tell ourselves and our children that Mummy is not always right, mummy could be wrong too. When we started accept ourselves and acknowledge our own weaknesses, we will be more able to rectify and make the necessary change to be a better version of ourselves.

What My Mother Has Taught Me

2 Sep

“My mother… she is beautiful, softened at the edges and tempered with a spine of steel. I want to grow old and be like her.” ~Jodi Picoult

Millionmars BVO Mother and Daughter 5

When I was browsing through my old blog posts on http://www.millionmars.com, I come to realized that I do not have much pictures taken together with the most important woman in my life – my mother.

My mum is my inspiration. Since I was a child, I thought she epitomized glamour. Everything about her was and still is beautiful. Her hair, her jewelry, her smiles… She influenced me in various ways, from fashion sense to parenting style. She is always positive and she has the ability to bring warmth to everyone around her. Her eyes always glitter in happiness and her way of living is always fun to me!

She has taught me about unconditional love. She has shown me how to love someone regardless of heated arguments, bad days, circumstances, distance, and everything in between. She has taught me that some loves come with no rules and no ending.

I am so happy that we finally have the “mother and daughter” pictures taken.

Special thanks to BVO Makeup for making both of us look so beautiful.

Hope you enjoy the pictures as much as we enjoy the shoot.

Have a great September everyone.

God bless you.

My Perfect Day

23 Jul

Having children had transformed my life at a cellular level.

“If you were wise enough to know that this life would consist mostly of letting go of things you wanted, then why not get good at the letting go, rather than the trying to have? These exotic revelations bubbled up involuntarily and I began to understand that the sleeplessness and vigilance and constant feedings were a form of brainwashing, a process by which my old self was being molded, slowly but with a steady force, into a new shape: a mother. It hurt. I tried to be conscious while it happened, like watching my own surgery. I hoped to retain a tiny corner of the old me, just enough to warn other women with. But I knew this was unlikely; when the process was complete I wouldn’t have anything left to complain with, it wouldn’t hurt anymore, I wouldn’t remember.”
Miranda July

The biggest part of motherhood transformation for me, is about discovery (or re-discovery). The world has been made entirely new by the presence of my children in it. I had forgotten how wonderful and magical fireworks are. I am as surprised as them every time we go exploring through the little garden and find bright green caterpillars resting on the leaves. It’s beyond imagination that we should be so lucky to blow bubbles in the yard and spot airplanes flying through the sky. And sometimes, when we are very lucky, a red dragonfly would land beside us. The world is insanely, incomprehensively amazing when you are being directed by a three-year-old and one-year-old.

Everything about the world is just so beautiful.

And a perfect day for me, is able to spend time with them, tell them stories and laugh over tiny silly things: such as when someone sneeze and we will all giggle and say bless you!

(I know, it all sound a bit boring and cliché, but being a mother makes you look at life rather differently.)

I no longer stick to my own agenda and the urge of chasing productivity has lost almost entirely. I am humbled. I just want to express a relatively small portion of me to the world, to love people well, to spend time with those that are important in my life. So motherhood constricted me, but it also makes me focus. Never in my life I am so clear about what really matters and what doesn’t.

Some days, I feel stronger and wiser than I have ever been.

Some days, I feel so stretched out and weak.

Some days, it is just perfect.

Like this particular day we spent cuddling in the hotel room and celebrated Annabelle’s 1st birthday.

Sometimes I would think about how I used to be before the children come, especially at night when everyone is asleep. And I realized that I don’t really remember my old self. Motherhood is the beginning of permanent transformation. I did it three years ago and it is the most amazing blessing I’ve ever known.

Thank you so much for reading.

God bless you.

I am in love with everything she is. She is bold, she is determined, she learns things fast and she is a friendly baby. She got compliments everywhere she goes, to an extend that it makes me feel so jealous.

On top of all that, she is fair and has beautiful smiles…

This is probably my first published mother and daughter pictures with Annabelle. Although I don’t show it very often, but I do spend a lot of time with Annabelle as compared to Isabelle (that girl is more to daddy side nowadays @.@)

(Pardon me for inserting a few of mummy close up pictures #sorrynotsorry)

Hope you enjoy the pictures as much as we enjoy the shoot. Isabelle was holding her beloved umbrella and kept walking into the pictures while her daddy tried to capture the moment when Annabelle smiles. So the whole session was filled with

“Annabelle… Smile… Annabelle…”

(Then we do all the monkey acts to get her smile…)

Meanwhile…
“Isabelle, can you please get out of the picture? Thank you.”
